WELCOME TO MUSIC!
Miss Strayer's String Lessons
Hello! My name is Lisa Strayer, and I have been a music educator for the past fifteen years. I have a passion for music and working with children so this is definitely the best career in the world! Currently, I teach elementary strings and vocal music classes at Juniata, Logan, Baker, and Pleasant Valley Elementary School. Prior to the school’s closing in 2008, I directed the string orchestra program at Keith Junior High School. I have also taught middle school strings, elementary strings, and an elementary string orchestra camp in Hamilton, NJ. When I am not at school, I can be found teaching private viola and violin lessons to students of all ages. On the weekends, I frequently accompany on violin and piano at St. Michael's in Hollidaysburg, PA. My favorite quote that I tell all of my string students is, “Practice only on days you eat!”
WHY I TEACH MUSIC
Music has always been a huge part of my life. Some of my fondest childhood memories involve playing in the school orchestra. When I became a music teacher, I knew I wanted to share my love for music with the students and help them to acquire the many benefits that music has to offer. I believe that playing an instrument can help students learn discipline, respect, confidence, teamwork, social skills, coordination, problem solving, listening skills, and perseverance. I feel lucky that I can help the music students obtain so many of the life skills that they will need in the workforce as adults.
